Module 1 - 10 ECTS

Introduction to Hospitality

This module introduces learners to the basic principles, fundamentals and departments found within the hospitality industry. This module will lay the pediment for learners to acquire the basic knowledge of hospitality and be able to further understand the specific modules related to the different specialisations.

Module 2 - 5 ECTS

English Language for Hospitality

This module allows learners to be prepared to work within the field of hospitality. Learners will be better knowledgeable and equipped with the four English language skills including listening, speaking, writing and reading.

Module 3 - 10 ECTS

Food and Beverage Operations

This module allows learners to gain the relevant knowledge and skills required within the food and beverage service industry. This module will help learners understand the importance of personal appearance and first impressions as well as allows them to explore the basic service styles and the use and upkeep of equipment and tools.

Module 4 - 10 ECTS

Hospitality Operations

This module allows learners to delve deeper into hotel operations and become familiar with the basic functions of this department including front-office, executives, housekeeping, maintenance, finance, marketing & sales, and kitchen staff. By the end of the module, learners will have acquired knowledge on the vast responsibilities and roles of hotel operations.

Module 5 - 10 ECTS

Finance in Hospitality

Hotels and resorts, like any other business, must effectively manage their finances in order to become profitable. Proper financial management enables this, and this topic teaches learners the fundamental principles of financing in the hotel industry.

Module 6 - 10 ECTS

Human Resources in Hospitality

Upon successful completion of this module, learners shall be able to demonstrate understanding of the role of human resource management within the field of hospitality. Learners will be equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and competence to understand various functions of human resource in hospitality, as well as understand the importance of employee recruitment, selection, motivation, training and retention within hotels.

Module 7 - 5 ECTS

Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions

This module allows learners to understand the principles, benefits, and challenges of implementing MICE services in a hotel or in the hospitality industry overall. Furthermore, learners will become familiar with the fundamental principles of MICE services and what such services include.

About this course

Learn the fundamentals of hotel management and understand how resorts and restaurants operate efficiently with our MQF Level 5 Undergraduate Diploma in Hospitality.

 

Building upon the knowledge acquired from the Undergraduate Certificate in Hospitality, the Undergraduate Diploma in Hospitality provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of the hospitality business and helps students build confidence as hospitality professionals by providing practical experience through a part-time work placement. Learners will learn how to:

  • Be accountable for their own learning in hospitality and the hotel industry
  • Deal with various tasks within a hotel as requested
  • Process guest reservations and manage room bookings efficiently
  • Ensure correct use of the English language in various settings within hospitality
  • Use effective language to collaborate with colleagues, superiors, and guests
  • Collaborate with different departments within the operations division
  • Professionally represent the hotel
  • Guide tourists according to their needs and requirements
  • Carry out effective decision-making and critical thinking skills at the workplace

This qualification is awarded by Central Mediterranean Business School (CMBS).

 

This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. MFHEA deems this Undergraduate Diploma in Hospitality to be at Level 5 in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have an MQF Level 4 qualification in hospitality or a relevant discipline. MATSEC subjects such as Maltese, English, Mathematics, and any other two subjects at Grade 5 or higher will be accepted. Candidates should also be in possession of a suitable English qualification such as IELTs 6.0 or CEFR, or equivalent.

 

Assessment Mode

A work-based learning project will be utilised to assess students for this programme.

 

Delivery Mode

The Undergraduate Diploma in Hospitality is delivered through a combination of seminars and work-based learning.

 

Who is this course for?

This course is intended for those who are aged 21+ and aspire to work or are already working in the hospitality industry.

 

Language of Instruction

This programme will be delivered in English.
