Award in Maltese Language Proficiency for ECEC Childcare Educators
Table of Contents
This award equips Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) practitioners with essential Maltese language skills for effective communication in childcare settings, fostering practical vocabulary and conversational abilities to engage with parents, children, colleagues, and regulatory bodies, covering age-appropriate language for young children and professional communication with parents and management, ultimately enabling confident and professional interactions in their ECEC roles.
Learners will learn how to:
- Use culturally and linguistically appropriate language in professional and caregiving contexts.
- Ensure clarity and respect in communication, adapting language for parents, children, and officials.
- Collaborate with parents to effectively communicate their child’s needs, preferences, and well-being.
- Guide children with basic Maltese phrases to support their understanding of routines and safety.
- Engage in age-appropriate interactions using simple Maltese songs, greetings, and vocabulary.
- Comply with formal greetings and pleasantries when interacting with management and regulatory bodies.
- Represent the childcare centre professionally when addressing management or regulatory authorities in Maltese.

Mode of Assessment
This award will be delivered through a combination of in-class lectures and online sessions and will be assessed through examinations.
