The MQF Level 5 Foundation Degree in Business Management allows learners to further their studies in management by building upon the Diploma in Business Management. The programme equips learners with the leadership tools required to become better people managers and more effective leaders and demonstrates the importance of various practices when it comes to managing businesses and moving individuals, teams and whole organisations toward success.
Learners will learn how to:
- Define and critically discuss the term ‘business’ and the different types of organisations found in the business industry.
- Understand the effects of the external environment on the overall success of a business.
- Comply with employment laws and regulations when performing recruitment.
- Understand the key differences and similarities between management and leadership.
- Carry out stress management exercises when needed.
- Provide recommendations on the ways in which marketing can help an organisation reach their goals.
- Execute an effective communication plan according to the requirements of the organisation.
- Ensure the use of effective and appropriate communication methods and techniques with all stakeholders.
- Draw up simple general ledger accounts and simple journal entries.
- Collaborate with colleagues, clients or any other direct or indirect stakeholder using effective team-working skills.
- Monitor inventories and stocks of the organisational resources.
- Carry innovative change management initiatives at the workplace.
Upon successful completion of this programme, learners will be eligible to advance their studies by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.

This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. MFHEA deems this Foundation Degree to be at Level 5 in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold:
- A Diploma in a related field pegged at MQF Level 4 or equivalent OR;
- A Matriculation certificate with at least 2 A-levels & 3 Intermediate OR;
- Mature Student OR;
- A MATSEC certificate with Grade 5 or better in English, Maltese and Mathematics together with at least 5 years of experience working within a business setting.
Mode of Assessment
This course shall be assessed through the use of an assignment based on the theoretical concepts presented during the lectures, and ways of implementing said concepts and theories. These assessments will include group assignments, group presentations, individual assignments and individual presentations.

This course is intended for those who are aged 21+ and aspire to work or are already working as team leaders or managers.

This module introduces learners to the basic principles of the business world. It demonstrates the different types of organisations found in the business world and highlights the different departments which are crucial to the effective managing and performance of an organisation.
This module allows the learner to get acquainted with the main similarities and differences between leadership and management. Moreover, they will also be exposed to the main theories governing them both and allow them to critically think which ones are most suitable for different activities, departments and objectives of organisations.
This module introduces learners to the world of human resource and people management, whereby they will be exposed to the different activities and responsibilities of this department within organisations. This module will therefore look at processes and procedures related to managing people.
This module focuses on the main techniques and tools which a manager might implement in order to recognise, resolve and mitigate conflict at the workplace. Furthermore, it also provides learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to manage stress within an organisation.
This module allows learners to understand the basic principles and concepts of marketing in organisations. It will allow them to gain an insight on the competitive environment, conducting effective analysis of the market, segmenting, targeting and positioning one’s product. Furthermore, it also looks at the challenges that organisations face when it comes to effective marketing decision making.
This module introduces learners to the basic principles included in communications management and its role in enhancing effectiveness and a positive busines environment whereby all staff members are aligned towards the same goals and objectives of the organisation.
Modules: Year 2
This module allows learners to delve into the basic principles which govern accounting and finance and their role in a business context. It will allow them to understand how accounting and finance and proper financial management can aid the organisation in performing better overall.
This module will allow learners to understand and further nurture their interpersonal skills which will enable them to go further successfully throughout their career. It will allow them to further their studies in management and to portray effective communication skills.
This module has been strategically designed to aid learners in understanding the fundamental role of operations management. It helps them by understanding its purpose within an organisation as well as outline the fundamental skills required by an effective operations manager.
This module introduces the basic principles of managing and implementing creativity and innovation within organisations. It will equip them with enough knowledge and skills to assess and implement creative and innovative thinking when it comes to planning, implementing and monitoring strategies.
This module aims at introducing learners to the basic concepts of economics in order to implement them at the workplace in a business context.
This module introduces learners to the basic concepts of critical thinking and the main benefits and challenges of implementing such practices at the workplace. This module shall also provide a link between enhanced team performance within an organisation and implementation of effective decision making, critical thinking and problem solving.
