The Undergraduate Diploma in Health and Social Care equips learners with an overview of the daily actions that need to be undertaken by carers and the essential abilities to pursue a managerial career in the health and social care sector. The course will give the learners a space to be able to put their knowledge, skills and competence acquired to practice through work-based learning.

Learners will learn how to:

  • Define the importance of managing resources correctly in health and social care
  • List and critically discuss health conditions that are common when caring for the elderly

Accrediting Body

This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority. MFHEA deems this Award in Undergraduate Diploma in Health and Social Care to be at Level 5 in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold:

  • MQF Level 4 (60 ECTS) Qualifications or equivalent OR;
  • A recognised EQF Level 4 full qualification in Health and Social Care AND
  • Non Native English Speakers should be in possession of suitable English qualifications such as IELTS 5.5 or CEFR, or equivalent.

Mode of Assessment

This course implements various methods and techniques of assessment including assignments, a group presentation, and a portfolio.

Modules

This module aims at introducing learners to get acquainted with the professional skills required by the health and social care worker and their role and responsibilities in the overall health and wellbeing of the patient.

 

This module allows learners to delve into the world of health and social care, where the fundamentals and pediments of caring for an elderly person are set. It will allow learners to gain an understanding of the daily routine and activities that are carried out when caring for elderly patients.

 

This module is intended to provide learners with the knowledge they need to be aware of the most frequent health issues in the elderly and to determine the best strategies to treat patients who may have these conditions.

 

This module covers the relevance of communication and soft skills in health and social care. As the caregiver spends the majority of their time with patients, they must be able to use good communication skills to ensure that they are both understood and that they understand the patient accurately in order to avoid misunderstandings, difficulties, and challenges.

 

This module allows learners to grasp the fundamental rights of patients when it comes to receiving care that is inclusive, which promotes equality and which promotes diversity. Learners will also become acquainted with the legislation related to such rights.

 

This module equips learners with the necessary knowledge and skills required to effectively work in health and social care and look out for health and safety measures. This module also introduces learners to the legislation governing health and social care in relation to health and safety and equips them with enough knowledge to be able to effectively prepare and care for a patient whilst also preventing health and safety risks.

 

This module delves into the requirements for working and caring effectively for the community patient who is not allocated in a residential home for the elderly. This module also outlines the use of promoting independence and the benefits and challenges that come along with the self-administration of medication.

 

This module introduces learners to the principles of resource planning, management, and oversight in the day-to-day delivery of health and social care. Learners will also cover budgeting, managing human resources, and preparing for the aforementioned in an efficient manner.

 

This module outlines the importance of encouraging patient autonomy and adopting the appropriate safety precautions in health and social care. It will provide a general overview of how to support older people who adopt a more independent approach and prepare for their care.

 

This module allows learners to understand how end-of-life care should be tackled in health and social care. This module also allows learners to form enough knowledge and skills to be able to support patients and their surrounding families or relatives in preparing for death and bereavement in a professional manner.
